Sometimes life throws curve balls at you. Not a wicked slider or a Tim Lincecum fastball, but a wicked curve ball that fools the hell out of you.
I have a friend who always answered the phone by saying "Hey there". Every time I called: "hey there".
Unfortunately we don't get a chance to talk much anymore. I didn't see it coming.
Just like that wicked curve ball.

Chantix: Ferrell Poodles with Petunias
I started taking Chantix a few weeks ago to help me stop smoking. It has helped me break my addiction to nicotine. Stopping the physical habit has been fairly easy. I am well on my way!
Chantix, like all medications, has side effects. This one is my favorite:
Dream of poodles tonight.

"You may have trouble sleeping, vivid, unusual, or strange dreams while taking CHANTIX."Last night I had a dream about a pack of wild poodles. Their fur was filled with dirt and flowers were growing and blooming! Petunias, daisies, and sunflowers. The beauty of the dogs was amazing.

A Good Time Was Had by All
What an exciting New Year's Eve for PJ and I! She wandered off to bed about 9:15 last night, while I watched the tele. As i was getting ready to turn it off, I picked up my cell phone to check out the time. 11:59 pm CST. What was I to do? I could lay it down, turn off the tv and go to sleep or wait for the magical moment that it transported me into a new decade. I decided to wait for that moment. It was kind of like waiting for toast to pop up; I waited and waited and waited, then, in a flash, it said Fri. Jan 1.
That's when I rolled over and went sleep.
Now for a few leftover things from 2009:
A woman in South Dakota was arrested for DUI. That in itself is unremarkable. The fact that her blood alcohol was .708 is, however. She also missed her court appearance and was found in a stolen vehicle. The story from the Star Tribune is here.
Last year I also maintained my status with some hotel/motel chain reward programs as an elite member. I feel a bit like George Clooney in "Up in the Air".
But I do not consider my time at home "miserable" and I did not follow (or lead) any women into hotel rooms!

And that, My Friends, is your final Crab Sports Update of the year. But, with one fianl question:
What are these guys doing?
What are these guys doing?

If you actually want to read about the game, the story is at the Des Moines Register*.

Just because I was in the military
doesn't mean it was a good experience.
One of the best anti-war songs ever written, Boy Blue by the Electric Light Orchestra.
One of the best anti-war songs ever written, Boy Blue by the Electric Light Orchestra.
Hey Boy Blue, can't you hear all the noise, it's for you.
All the town's waiting there, let us go.
There's a show like you ain't seen before.
Weclome home, where you been all these years, look around.
All the crowd is in tears,
It's so good to see you in the streets of your town
CHORUS
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
I've seen bold knights, dropping down like flies,
I've seen kings, rolling in the mire,
I've seen God, point the finger of doom to our foes.
I have fought in the holiest wars,
I have smashed, some of the holiest jaws.
I've been jailed, been impaled, and been dragged through the world.
One thing, I have learned through these years,
Is that no man, should be stricken with fear.
It should be that he walks with no care in the world.
So my friends, who are gathered today,
Hear this clear, for I'll not further say.
That no man, shall cause me to take up arms again.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.
Hey Boy Blue is back.

Afghanistan
Warren Zevon considers the war in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion. Oh, by the way, the US backed the Mujaheddin, some of who would go on to become the Taliban.

Captain Crab's Thought (s) of the Day
Living out here in the country there is not a lot of traffic past our house on the gravel road. A couple of farmers, the guy who lives down the road, and the mail lady. Someday I am going to forget what time it is and be standing there in my boxers when she delivers the mail.
I have been very stressed lately.
I never thought that I would make it to thirty, let alone fifty eight!
God is Great, beer is good and people are crazy.I watched "The Big Lebowski" last night while the H attended "Lebowski Fest" in Minneapolis.
