Farm Progress Hay Expo

Last week was the world famous Farm Progress Hay Expo. This year it was held near Ossian, Iowa. It's about as much fun as a person can have standing fully clothed.

This was the exhibit field from a mile away.

Susie and Dena always do a great job of keeping things under control.

A view of the food court from my booth.

Holding an event like this on a gravel road is a dusty proposition.

A liquid manure tank was used to water down the road for dust control.

Northeast Iowa has some great scenery.

People watching hay equipment demonstrations.

Bored, so I photographed a reflection of some equipment.

Still bored.

Then, the field demos started near where I was. These forage harveters are amazing!

Apparently, the "Supreme Being" of your choice did not want this house or road or Lake Delton where they were:

Sometimes Things Go Wrong

When going into an unknown environment, careful planning is of the utmost importance. Porter Berry, a producer for "The O'Reilly Factor" went on a "sneak attack" of Bill Moyers, who was speaking at the National Conference for Media Reform.

Porter do a little bit more planning next time!

Note: The audio is not great.

Mr. Moyer's speech as well as several others can be seen here.

Since I was lax and did not take any pictures of the "Bridges of Madison County", here is a picture of "A Bridge of Calhoun County".

Captain Crab's Week

Winterset, Iowa is in Madison County, which is home to some famous bridges that spawned a movie that I never saw, and actor John Wayne. I was lucky enough to stay in the "John Wayne" room. It has several framed tributes to the "Duke" and really lousy wireless internet reception.

Studly!

What a movie! Ricky Nelson brought the teenage girls to the theatres! Marketing genius!

The man who never served in the armed forces in uniform.

"The Horses of Madison County."

I didn't know the "Confederate States of America" included Iowa?

We had heavy rain Thursday night. This is a cornfield, not a lake.

Make up your own caption for this one.
