Pregnant at 16

I usually don't read celebrity news and gossip, but the Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy coverage is way too stupid to ignore. CNN asks "How do you talk to kids about Britney's sister?" When I talk to my daughter, who is her early 20's and childless, I'll just say "aren't you happy you weren't that dumb?"

And of course the legal aspects of the case.

There may be more, because I'm still reading CNN!

Update: I tried reading FOX News, but it's just too scary over there.

Update 2: Publishing of Jamie Lynn's Mom's book has been delayed.

I am sure that there will a lot more written about his over the next 7 1/2 months, but I will try to refrain from reading it.

Your daughter will say exactly that.

I'm going to start off by saying, you're right. We will have to listen to this for the next 7 and a half months. I'm disappointed that all the news outlets are passing this for "news".
Jamie Lynn Spears was irresponsible and unprofessional when she went to the tabloids before she told Nickelodeon. The Brady Bunch were not angels, neither were most child stars. They kept their dirty laundry to themselves.
I'm sorry to the parents and I'm sorry to Nickelodeon. I grew up with it and it is a good channel for kids. I'll take their defense any day. It bothers me that parents would even hold them resonsible.

The only people responsible are Jamie Lynn Spears and her boy friend. Not Nickelodeon, not the tabloids.

A simple rule:

If you are going to have sex and don't want to get pregnant, use a contraceptive!

Are the Spears the new Jackson Family??? It's one bizarre thing after the other... Where these parents at all around these two clueless girls???

Well, Lynne has witten a book, but the release has been delayed due to these unfortunate circumsatnces:

Publishers Marketplace describes the book as "Lynne Spears's personal story of raising high-profile children while coming from a low-profile Louisiana community." The book is set to be published in spring 2008.

Thomas Nelson also publishes Bibles and inspirational (Christian) books.

Not to be all defending the Spears's or anything--and for the love of god, believe me, I'm not--but 16 year olds get pregnant all the time. They know they should use birth control and they mean to, or at least they mean to mean to, but they just don't.

In and of itself I'm not sure having a 16-year-old pregnant daughter makes them worse parents than lots of others, and I'm really not convinced that every time a child makes a bad decision, it's evidence of parental failture.

What makes the Searses disturbing parents is that they pushed the girls into stardom and reveled in it right up until it bit them in the ass and Britney wasn't good little "No premarital sex" girl any more (and boy, did she go in the other direction).

It is pathetic that this is considered "news," just like it was ridiculous that all the tabloids acted like Christina Aguilera OWED it to the world to officially declare her pregnancy.

Wasn't it about 2 weeks ago that the tabloids were saying Britney is pregnant again? I'm not hearing any more about that, so either she wasn't or no longer is, I guess.

Gwen: Maybe, when Jamie Lynn got pregnant she actually used up some of the "bad Spears" karma, thereby causing Britney not to be pregnant anymore.

Or, the press doesn't care about an OLD Spears being pregnant.
